Pretending to Dance

So this was one of my favourite types of book purchases - walking into Waterstones, looking at the buy one get one half price sections, and just choosing any book I take a fancy to, not worrying about what other people say about the quality or the literary value, this does not always pay off, but I really enjoyed this one.

Pretending to Dance follows Molly, and consists of dual timelines, one of her current life and struggles with her husband, and the other of her childhood, revealing the secrets she holds, and why she chose to lie to her husband. The timelines work perfectly in cohesion with each other, you truly feel as if you are reading a diary from a teenager, and then an adult, this book is definitely one that you can find yourself lost in, you want to continue reading and discover all the secrets, and it's one that's very hard to put down in the evening!

Would I say this has changed my life in any form? No, but at no point have I regretted choosing this one, it is a fun yet exciting read, that doesn't take too much effort, but gives something more than your typical love story.

GBK Southampton

Before GBK came to Southampton, I had never been - shock horror! Now, I am total convert, regularly popping in for lunch with friends. The atmosphere at GBK is very relaxed, you're shown to a table with menus, and then when you're ready you head to the bar to order, and then are served your food. The menu is so easy to navigate, and no one I've ever been with has wanted something that they don't do, personally, I opt for a completely plain beef burger, yes, I am that person!

They do a few different starters, which are perfect to grab a couple and share as a table! Also, if you're feeling peckish then get a shake - you won't regret it. The fries are the skinniest you'll ever find, but very filling, and although the choice of desserts is very limited, you definitely don't need one.

To make your next trip easier on the wallet too, download their app, and you get a free item every other visit!

The food tastes great, the burgers automatically come medium cooked, but you can alter this to your preference, if there are any issues at all then the staff are super helpful, as I found out when I forgot to ask for mine plain... You definitely get the feeling that nothing is too much for them, which is lovely! The decor at the new Southampton site is gorgeous, with a super high ceiling, and being in the cultural corner, it looks so welcoming in the evening!

Urban Decay Naked

I have wanted the original Naked palette since I learned of their existence! Everyone seems to have it, when I see an eye look I love, it's keep component is always one of these 12 perfectly chosen and matched shades, so when I found this in a gift bag from my girls on my birthday, I could have squealed with delight.

Lets start with packaging, I know that eventually I will moan about how grubby this is going to get, but right now, I love how gorgeous it is, and despite not being as sturdy as the Naked 3, I think there is little in it! As always, there is a mirror which makes it handy for travel, and the standard double ended eyeshadow brush! In the box you also receive the 4 primer samples!

I haven't had this very long, but so far I am finding myself reaching for similar shades each day, in particular these ones, they work so well together, and really suit my blue/green/grey eyes! Expect to see more of this one soon.

Top to Bottom - Toasted, Smog, Half-baked & Sidecar.

Afternoon Tea at the Grand Cafe

Because my blogging girls are the best, to celebrate my birthday, they took me to the Grand Cafe in Southampton for afternoon tea! I had no idea this beautiful place even existed, the decor was stunning, with fibre optic lighting, mismatch lamps, and gorgeous tables, this is a dreamy venue for a special occasion.

The afternoon tea itself was gorgeous, I am not the biggest fan of Sandwiches, so I stuck to the two upper levels... oops! I also had never had scones - this was soon fixed, and now I really want some more scones and jam! Everyone was so full, and none of us managed to finish our share of our stacks, but if you are too disappointed in yourself you can request to take the leftovers home!

They had a singer there providing background music, which was such a lovely finishing touch, and paired with good cocktails - Jelly Baby is gorgeous, I cannot wait to return!

Me Before You

I had seen Me Before You multiple times, but had never picked it up, then I saw the trailer for the upcoming film, and instantly went to Waterstones, and couldn't put it down. Jojo Moyes has captured the most beautiful of love stories, in the most incredible way. I was fully invested in this book from the first page until the last, sounds cliché but I laughed and cried along with Lou and Will.

The characters within the book are human, they are relatable, so much so that you feel as if you know them, and miss them when you're not reading anymore, the story is perfectly paced, everything that deserves time and appreciation gets it, but it doesn't drag anything out.

I am going to keep this spoiler free, but this has become my favourite contemporary novel, it is breathtaking, and I cannot wait to go and see the film, I'm praying they do it justice!

Birthday Attire

I have begun referring to this as my princess skirt, as not only is it in the Cinderella shade of blue, but it twirls so beautifully! I picked this up very last minute, as I wanted something that would make me feel special in London, and this outfit does just that! The skirt can be transformed from daywear with flat pumps, to evening appropriate with some court shoes!

What I Got for my 21st Birthday

Now I love these posts, because I'm so nosy, standard disclaimer, I am not showing off, I am incredibly grateful for the amazing presents I received from everyone.

I found this particular set of Harry Potter books months ago, but hadn't mentioned them since, so was ecstatic to unwrap these! They are so gorgeous and I cannot wait to reread!
I received so many gorgeous presents from Thomas, but on the morning of my birthday I opened a beats pill speaker which I have wanted for so long, and when in London we took a trip to Tiffany's, I fell in love! Thomas also brought me lots of other gifts, and we took a trip to see Matilda the Musical on my birthday too!
My friends know me well - Makeup, skincare, chocolate and a boots voucher!
My blogging girls were incredibly generous, we spent the afternoon at the Grand Cafe in Southampton and had the most spectacular afternoon tea, where I had a crown, was presented with my three favourite things - makeup, a waterstones voucher, and also a Cinderella mug, I could not have felt more like a princess!

These are just some of the amazing gifts I received, I also had some other jewellery, money, vouchers etc. I would like to thank everyone for their generosity, and for making my 21st so special.

My 21st Birthday

My 21st birthday was the most special day of my entire life, I hopped on a train to London with Thomas, and had the most wonderful time! I actually had a whole week of celebrations with friends and family, but today I'm talking about the actual day.

We stopped off at Ed's Easy Diner, which is one of our favourites, and you also get a free birthday shake!
A spot of shopping was of course in order, I picked up a ring in Pandora, and Thomas kindly treated me to a gorgeous Tiffany's bracelet - best boyfriend award!
This one I knew, months ago we booked to go and see Matilda the Musical, I have never been so impressed by a show, all of the children were incredibly talented, the choreography was flawless, and I loved every second of it, this is a must see if you love musicals. To finish off our evening, we also headed to the cinema to watch the midnight premiere of Captain America: Civil War, which was everything I expected and more, still Team Iron Man, just saying.

Bobbi Brown - Bikini Pink

It would appear that I have developed a lipstick issue....

I was in Southampton, and after treating myself and Thomas to some dinner, he said he would buy me a new lipstick - whats the catch? how generous! After browsing through the MAC stand, having a hand covered in swatches, there just wasn't one that I instantly fell for, so I wondered over to the Bobbi Brown stand. I have never purchased anything from Bobbi Brown before, but this is the first one that caught Tom's eye, and I knew instantly this was the one.

Bikini Pink is a purple toned pink, but is definitely still a nude shade, the swatch below is 2-3 layers, but with one layer, you get a subtle but finished lip look. It's one of the Rich Lip Colour shades, and the formula is super hydrating and nourishing, and is the longest lasting non-matte shade I have tried. Packaging? Matte black, sleek, and doesn't get grubby. I love this one, and will definitely be picking more shades up in the range, could this replace MAC?
